What makes nursery décor so special!

It is indeed a great experience to be doing-up a nursery for your little ones. I still remember my mother’s twinkling eyes while she was talking about how she planned a nursery for my brother and I the other day. The pleasure that she experienced while performing the activity was evident from the joy I could see in her eyes as she explained how she picked up each and every thing from different shops and parts of the country. Wow, it still feels great to be thinking about all that she had said, and even better, it is to be sharing with you all, a few tips she found handy and can be used by us now.

We all wish to do the best and get the best out of everything when it comes to our little bundle of joy. As gratifying, it is to hold the small baby in your hands, we all tend to become very choosy about even the small things for the baby. It is exactly this emotion that makes the task of doing-up the nursery both difficult and fulfilling. After all, there isn’t any room for any compromise.

Let us start with some colour talk – It is believed that babies see the world in black and white hues and start getting attracted towards other bright colours with time. Therefore, use cozy, relaxing and fresh colours like peach, green, blue in the nursery. This will keep your baby calm and bubbling with joy at all times.

For a nice and soothing transition from black and white to subtle colours, always be very cautious when choosing the right shades for the nursery. Another important thing that needs your attention is use of toxin-free products in the nursery and colours top the list when it comes to this. You can try using eco-friendly laminates available in a range of designs and textures instead of paint. Eco-friendly laminates will keep the surrounding air clean ensuring your baby is breathing in air that is fresh and safe.

Have fun with fabrics – A great way to induce excitement in the décor is by using diverse patterns, textures, designs in fabric and the decorations across the room. Each time your child sees or touches these fabrics, it is learning something new that is developing its senses.

Now, some furniture fast facts – “Kids grow up so fast that sometimes it feels like a blink of your eye-lids,” that’s what my mom said when she told me about these few things to remember while buying furniture for the nursery.

  • Check for no sharp edges protruding from the crib, the chair or table around the nursery. Especially when at the toddler stage, kids tend to move around haphazardly and edges may pose a risk of injury
  • Minimum furnishing is a good idea. Kids need a lot of space and room for activity and furniture only pose as roadblocks for their growth trajectory. Less is always good for the nursery
  • Smoke detectors and monitors are a must for the nursery keeping your child’s safety in mind. Also, a fire alarm for the place may be a good idea
  • Have overhead countertops, instead of huge wardrobe. Kids love to play hide and seek inside wardrobes and may end-up locking themselves leading to serious accidents. Overhead countertops are a safe option as the child will have difficulty reaching the height
  • Install night light for the room so that your kids do not get scared of darkness if they wake-up at wee hours
  • You must ensure all switch boards and electricity points and vaults in the room are covered well. You don’t want your baby to push its little fingers inside these points

Besides these elements, also make sure there is proper ventilation in the room with enough natural light. These factors are very important for the overall development of your child. Gift your baby a safe, sound and healthy nursery. All these things together will make your nursery special.
