Kitchen for your soul
Cooking can be a great therapy, I feel. But sometimes, it becomes a drudgery if the kitchen area isn’t well-organized or doesn’t have enough space! It happened to me when I shifted to a new city and did not have the same kind of spacious and well-organized kitchen as I once had in my old house!
I decided to revamp my kitchen inorder to continue to enjoy cooking! I sat down and noted the hitches that I came across in my present kitchen and figured that the things I most missed in my kitchen included space, storage and light! Let me share some of the ideas that I followed while re-doing my kitchen to make my life and work easier in the area.
I began with having a center modular worktop installed in my kitchen. A modular worktop proved to be of immense help as it allowed me a lot of space for cooking, cutting and chopping etc. I figured that I could easily sit on a high-chair and do my cooking if I ever feel tired and could move around the worktop itself whenever I wanted! I chose laminate worktop and it turned out to be easy to maintain as it could be cleaned effortlessly and therefore proved to be hygienic that ways as it is stain-resistant!
I got storage fixtures for my kitchen at one side as I did not have a separate area to stock my cans and other food stuff. The store-fixtures look absolutely great on one wall and make my task easier to organize all that I want my kitchen should have. All the appliances can be kept in a separate fixture and are easy to access. Apart from that I got modular storage cabinets affixed in my kitchen that help me save a lot of space and help keep my kitchen tidy as I do not end up stocking utensils in baskets etc.
After the storage and space to work upon, I just made sure that my kitchen gets enough light. I believe that light really makes an area look bright, pleasant, inviting and expansive. Even though my kitchen is not that big, I feel the space owing to the fact that natural light expands on its surface and gives an illusion of space. I got an entire wall broken and transformed into huge windows to add light and to facilitate ventilation!
Little introspection and some efforts to understand the resources I had at my disposal helped me overcome my problem and now my kitchen feels as good as ever! I love cooking in the area and I just can see no reason now to shirk away from the activity that I always enjoyed since many years!
